Misinterpreted scriptures of the Bible often pose a challenge to the believer’s accurate growth.
I often wondered; did Judas Iscariot have any choice in his betrayal of Jesus?
Or was the office of the betrayal open to anyone, patiently waiting for the right person who has met the requirements to sit there?
Be it as it may, my job is to bring an accurate biblical perspective on such Misinterpreted scriptures of the Bible.
Below are some Misinterpreted scriptures of the Bible and what they mean
Misinterpreted scriptures Of The Bible Explained
1) The Story Of Uzzah; 2 Samuel 6:1-7
2Sam.6.6 – And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor,
Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.
2Sam.6.7 – And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah;
Misinterptreted scriptures of the Bible can be daunting, I recall that the first time I came across this scripture during my study.
For the most part, I felt it was very unfair that God would strike down someone who was carrying his Ark.
Surely his tripping and falling was an accident not an intentional act punishable by death?
Important to realize, is the fact that The Bible specifically stated the way the Ark of God should be carried.
Given that they didn’t do it the way God stipulated it to be done.
Consequently, Uzzah was struck down; but then believers should understand that it was not necessarily about Uzzah,
Albeit he died because:
1) Man was trying to pioneer another means to carry God
Misinterpreted scriptures make us take out of context what God is trying to say or give it our own meaning.
To clarify, God’s intent was that he be carried in a specific way that wasn’t man’s method or means.
Moreover, this was what the children of Israel did in the beginning when they told Samuel to give them a king like other nations.
1Sam.8.19 – Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel;
and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
1Sam.8.20 – That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
2) The Ark Was To Be Borne On The Shoulders Of Priest
This Misinterpreted scripture, shines light to the fact that God specifically stated who should touch or carry His Ark.
Deut.31.25 – That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,
Consequent upon the above scripture, The Levites were specially ordained and anointed by God to bear the Ark.
1Chr.15.2 – Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites:
for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.
In fact consecrated Levites not on a cart or by unsanctified and unconsecrated people.
2) 1Tim.2.11 – Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
Context is crucial for understanding any passage of Scripture otherwise Misinterpreted scriptures will abound.
With this in mind, you must study them carefully, with prayer to understand them to avoid Misinterpreted scriptures.
Another key point, is to look at language (Paul was writing in Greek) and context (he was in a specific place and time),
To determine what is being said, before we have an emotional reaction to it that clouds our vision.
In other words, when we read about learning in silence, it seems as though Christian women in particular are being admonished to keep silent.
However, the Greek word in this instance was hardly ever used as an oppressive directive.
It was more frequently used to characterize an attitude of awe or devotion.
Given the historical context and Paul’s earlier remarks, it is evident that Paul does not intend that women are expected to stay “silent,”
Rather, he implies a peacefulness, or stillness, or calmness.
It must be remembered that Christ does not encourage dissent among his body.
Therefore, we need to tread with caution when exploring this verse and do what you feel God is calling you to do.
As a matter of fact, within the confines of your church leadership/authority designed to reinforce this original order.
An excerpt from Pastor John Piper:
“For men and women who have a heart to minister to save souls and heal broken lives,
God intends for the entire church to be mobilized in ministry, male and female.
Nobody is to be at home watching soaps operas and reruns while the world burns.
3) 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil”
This is another Misinterpreted scriptures that requires Godly insight.
While money can certainly lead us down the wrong path of a life not submitted to Christ, It is not wrong to have money.
First and foremost, you have to understand that money has a purpose it serves.
Hence, it shouldn’t be elevated beyond what purpose God intended it to serve for man.
If you do this, you will end up under the strong and vice gripe of mammon, and before long you are enslaved.
Like Judas you will end up betraying your Lord, even after promising not to.
Moreover, your money is to be spent on God’s Mission not on worldly pleasures.
Therefore, God made you a steward over the money He gave you and can make demands on it anytime.
It is important to note that nothing is wrong with money.
In fact, money in the hands of a man that the cross has worked on is a weapon of great mass righteousness.
Conclusion
Misinterpreted scriptures of the Bible makes you not to be thoroughly furnished.
Henceforth, you need to know that God wants you to have money and for your soul to prosper as well.
Certainly, you have to know that God expects that He be borne on the shoulders of concentrated priests.
Finally, we have to be aware of the fact that God intends for the entire church to be mobilized in ministry, male and female.
May God help you become the believer that brings smile and consolation to God’s heart. IJN
