The Be-Atitude, a series of blessings outlining the qualities and demands of a righteous life, these are part of the central teachings of Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, the Be-Atitude are the principles of practical Christianity – according to Apostle Edu Udechukwu.
Moving on, recorded in the sermon on the Mount Matthew 5:1-12, this Spirit filled teaching gives the believer a clear roadmap to personal growth, spiritual growth, and a life dedicated to God.
Thats not all, this article will explore the significance of The Be-Atitude and their impact on the journey of our work with God.
Lessons To Learn From The Be-Atitude
The Be-Atitude is for practical Christian living, that is meant to guide believers in their daily living.
For example, The Be-Atitude in the victorious Christian life, teaches the believer that he is in charge in any territory he finds himself.
Thus, it is based on the finished works of Christ but not yet an experience dependent on the believers walk with God.
Furthermore, let’s say he finds himself somewhere, and he just casually mutters tongues and didn’t care to know that in addition to muttering tongues is the need for practical Christianity.
“To properly understand Beatitude, we need to properly understand relationship”
The Be-Atitude explained from 1-8
1.Blessed are the Poor in Spirit, For Theirs Is The Kingdom of Heaven
Ps.70.5 – “But I am poor and needy”: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.
From the above statement “But I am poor and needy” from David in the Bible we have a glimpse of what it actually means to be poor in the spirit.
I mean David was already a king, had a lot of things at his disposal and was even loved by God, yet here he was saying he is poor
What poverty is David now talking about?, What is he needy about?,
So to be poor in spirit is when a man has understood the utter uselessness of “the old man/ the flesh”
“The old man is the nature that has lost usefulness as far as God matter is concerned” Apst Edu Udechukwu
The Be-atitude helps in understanding the utter uselessness of the old man, the next thing is to understand the need for God
Also, it is the utter dependence on God to achieve destiny and God’s purposes for their life.
Moving further, scripture means that there is a kingdom where the things of God is already operational.
Also, there is a certain kind of people, attitude and posture that a man needs to sustain upon the earth that will enable them to lay hold on the dimensions of the heavenly kingdom.
This, this brings us to the first Be-atitude which is being poor in spirit.
The Be-atitude here introduces the concept of spiritual poverty, urging believers to recognize their own limitations and need for divine guidance. By embracing humility.
That’s how we subject ourselves to the transformative power and hand of the HolyGhost and His love, allowing us to grow and mature spiritually.
2. Blessed are those who Mourn, For They Shall Be Comforted
The Be-atitude here emphasises on the word “mourn” which is gotten from the Greek word “Pentio” meaning to grieve.
And from the root word “Pascho” meaning to experience and participate in someone’s travail and pangs
Phil.3.10 – That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
In the kingdom, for you to properly mourn, you need to feel the pain of what you are discharging. This is one of the principal office of the HolyGhost.
The Be-atitudes “ Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” is a proof that there is a blessedness that comes with mourning
The second word in this beatitude is “Comfort”, there are two Greek words for comfort in the new testament; and the first is “Therseo” to encourage someone as a bystander.
While the other is “Parakaleo” and this means to ease someone’s travail by participating in it.
John.14.16 – And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever;
Also, Rom.8.26 – Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
But the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Here you bring yourself into the same experience the person has with the intent to lessen the burden or take it away from the person.
It seems as if the scriptures is saying that one of the consolations of mourning is comfort, so it is only a man that mourns that receives God’s comfort
2Cor.1.4 – Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted by God.
3. Blessed are the Meek, For They Shall Inherit The Earth
The meek, according to The Be-atitudes, are those who sustain a
perpetual heart posture of power under control, patience and kindness, even in the face of adversity.
Infact I’ve come to realise that the true test of meekness is not really when we are calm or maybe when we don’t have much power in our control.
Most times we seem meek, but our meekness is tested in situations when when have power, in a place of authority yet we still allow the HolyGhost to work what He wants in us even when people outrightly look down on us.
Take Moses for example, the scripture describes him God has designed that His children should inherit the earth, and one of the way to make this a reality is through meekness.
Sometimes meekness is clearly seen especially in situations where we have
power to enforce our mind but stay calm nonetheless without it getting to us Ps.115.16 – The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
The Be-atitude of meekness allow God’s love to flow through us, His nature to find expression through us to the world.
Meekness helps us to go difficult situations with godly calmness and resilience.
One of the ways you know a meek man is his ability to have his power under control.
4. Blessed are those who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness; For They Shall Be Filled
The Be-atitude of being hungry and thirsting after righteousness is one of the blessings every believer needs.
Furthermore, this is a prayer every Christian needs to make, for a hunger that intensifies with time and never wanes.
In Matthew 6:33, the scripture said we should seek first the kingdom of God and every other thing will be added unto us.
Thus this means that it takes a hungry people to seek because that the only gaurentee they will find what they seek.
Same with what the scripture says in “ Ps.42.1 – As the deer panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
The Be-atitude above potrays the thirst a believer should have for God like that of a deer panting after water.
To be more detailed, stories goes that the deer gives off a unique smell that makes it very fast for the lion to catch it as a prey.
Thus it quickly pants and longs for the water brooks because as long as it can find itself there the waters of the brook will mask it’s scent making it impossible for the lion to catch it.
Similary, the believer, thirst is what makes him pant after God as a deer pants after the water brooks
The scripture says in Luke.6.25a- Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger.
Meaning that a point should never come in the believers life where they think that they have received all they should of God.
The believer is expected to be perpetually hungry and thirsty.
This spiritual hunger fuels our pursuit of a closer intimacy with God and a more godly connection with the world around us.
5. Blessed are the Merciful; For They Shall Obtain Mercy
The Be-atitude here emphasis on mercy as a by product of the help of the HolyGhost.
Lam.3.22 – It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
The basic component of mercy
- compassion: compassion is something that comes out of your wombs or bowels, Compassion is sympathizing with people and having what it takes to help the person in need.
- Forbearance: This is the ability to bear long with people irrespective of what you think, this is a godly virtue.
Mercy is meant to be obtained and if it is to be obtained there is a requirement for its obtaining which is being merciful.
The Be-atitude, blessed are the merciful embraces the importance of empathy and understanding in our spiritual lives, as we are called to extend the same love and mercy we receive from God to those around us.
6) Blessed are the Pure in Heart; For They Shall See God
The Be-atitude here Focuses on purity is a virtue that must be cultivated at all cost, purity is freedom from anything that contaminates, adulterates or compromises.
Purity of heart refers to a sincere and unwavering commitment to seeking God’s will and living in alignment with His values.
Heb.12.14 – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
It is the purity of heart that translates into purity of action because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks
7. Blessed are the Peacemakers, For They Shall Be Called The Children Of God
“For you to be a peacemaker, you have to be a peacemaker” Apostle Edu Udechukwu
Being a man of peace is beyond what you say, it boils down to who you are as well.
That is why Jesus is called the Prince of Peace in the Bible not for hailing sake but because of who He is “Peace Himself”
It takes someone who has truly encountered Christ to be a peacemaker. Thus The Be-atitude here teaches us there is a peace that the world gives and a peace that Christ brings.
John.14.27 – Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Lastly, by striving for peace in Christ, we contribute to the realization of God’s kingdom on earth, where love and compassion reign supreme.
8. Blessed Are Those Who Are Persecuted For Righteousness; For Theirs The Kingdom Of God
The Be-Atitudes emphasizes on the reality that a believer must understand that in their walk with God, they will be persecuted and there is a heart that shoulders persecution.
Mark.10.30 – But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
From the above scripture, Jesus promises anyone who left things to truly follow Him what they will gain Jesus went on to mention houses, brothers, sisters, lands, children and added with “Persecution”.
The Bible speaking in says that if we are persecuted for a wrong we did, then we bear it. However, it takes the HolyGhost to help one to bear especially if they are being persecuted for righteousness.
Conclusion on The Be-Atitudes
The Be-atitudes is beyond being born again, if you violate any of these beatitudes, there are consequences.
Also, The Beatitudes provide a timeless and powerful guide to personal and spiritual growth, offering wisdom and insight for those seeking to live a life of love, compassion, and purpose.
By embracing these teachings, we can transform our lives and the HolyGhost can find full expression both in and through the believer. I pray help you to achieve this IJN.
