Navigating faith in a digital era is what the believer has to be aware of.
Times have shown that the Church eventually become victims of what they didn’t prepare for.
In the quickly changing digital society and social media influencing how you communicate.
Christians encounter both possibilities and problems.
Therefore, It is your responsibility to evaluate the information you take in and make sure it is in line with God’s word.
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Navigating Faith in a Digital Era Explained
The digital age offers both challenges and opportunities for Christians.
That’s why, you need to be aware as a believer that there is a wisdom for navigating faith in a digital era.
However, there are situations when the abundance of information available online can mislead you.
It might also legitimately cause diversions from your spiritual objectives.
On the other side, technology can provide previously unheard-of access to spiritual resources
when it is used by a Spirit-governed man and paths for evangelism and soul-winning.
That’s how navigating faith in the digital era becomes a reality.
Lastly, navigating faith in a digital era brings you to the point where you use technology as a tool to deepen your relationship with God,
Not as a replacement for genuine spiritual experiences and exercises.
This article explains navigating faith in the digital era, and how believers can do this and still remain steadfast in their commitment to Christ.
1. The Challenge of Distraction and Misplacement of Priority
One of the biggest challenge of a believer navigating faith in the digital era is distraction.
It can be simple to lose sight of “God” in a world where notifications and scrolling are the only things that matter.
Because of this, becoming sidetracked from Bible study or prayer can happen rather easily.
Moreover, I’ve realised that this distractions come in legitimate forms.
From the surface-level relationships found on social media, which can occasionally cause one to feel cut off from a genuine, deep family.
Furthermore, you must as a believer reminded nothing is worth replacing God’s focus.
You need moments of still and quietness while navigating faith in the digital era,
where you can reconnect with God, hear His voice clearly and respond to His instructions promptly.
In the end the things that really counts are things that have the innate capacity to find itself in God’s realm in eternity.
2. Opportunities for Outreach and Connection
This is another thing that brings a measure of consolation to the believer navigating faith in the digital era.
The Internet era presents unparalleled chances for sharing the Gospel
and establishing connections with believers around the globe.
Notwithstanding its drawbacks. Social media platforms can be utilised to create online communities of faith,
support one another, and exchange testimonies.
Moreover, it is good that you know that the social media is a “tool”.
If so be it that is a tool, then it must be treated as such nothing more.
Otherwise, something God intended for good will end up causing harm as against its original intentions.
In its truest sense, God intended for the social media to be a mirror of what is obtainable in heaven.
For example, how is God able to get across to thousands and tens of thousands of His angel at once.
It must mean that there is a technology, the same way on earth it is necessary especially for the great commission.
Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations”
3. Discernment in Consuming Digital Content
Another thing to take note of in navigating faith in the digital as a believer is this.
You must by the help of the Holyspirit discern contents to consume,
because a man eventually becomes a product of what and where he eats.
The internet provides a wealth of information, but not all of it aligns with biblical truth.
That’s why, as a believer you must know biblical truths otherwise you will be tossed about.
Consequently, not every food that looks good is healthy, the same for media contents.
Sometimes, they even look harmless and safe but it is only a bait to hook you in.
Once you are in, it never leaves you the same, it’s like it takes a bit of you and never returns it.
So, you must exercise discernment in what you consume online, ensuring that it edifies your faith rather than leading them astray.
In case you are not too sure, seek counsel from a correct “head”
Lastly, in navigating faith in the digital era, you must intentionally seive what you hear, or see.
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is right, whatever is pure, think about such things.”
Conclusion
Navigating faith in the digital era is not something you can pray out, you can only prepare yourself.
The more time goes, the more the world delves deeper into technology.
And any believer or church that is not discerning will be swept of by the wave of depravity it brings.
Because of this, being a Christian in the digital age means making deliberate decisions
and being dedicated to glorifying God in every facet of your online life.
Yes, there might be challenges like distraction or misinformation,
But then, opportunities for evangelism and soul winning, strenthning people’s faith and,
Showing people the possibilities of touching realities in God which they wouldn’t have if it wasn’t captured and displayed by these social media tools.
Finally, by prioritizing prayer, seeking and staying rooted in God’s Word,
navigating faith in the digital era will have a purpose.
Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus”
