Right heart posture will always be key if you want to study and understand the scriptures
That’s why, without the right heart posture or motive you would not benefit from the study.
In fact, the scripture will be locked out to you making it seem as if the Spirit of revelation is incapacitated.
You have to understand as a believer that God designed His words in such a way that you can’t engage it outside of Him.
It’s just like someone saying he is born again without accepting Christ, what then were you born with or into?
Finally, there is serious emphasis on the believer having the right heart posture
Otherwise, you will have a form of godliness but deny the power therefore.
James 1:21 “and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls
Right Heart Posture Explained
Just like crude oil is a raw material that can be processed into finished goods like fuel and diesel.
The heart of a believer is viable raw material for God to use to process His purposes.
So the right heart posture basically has to do with the believer having the heart that God can work with.
God needs believers who have the right heart posture, that’s why it seemed like God was too concerned about David
Or seemed “partial” with him.
But then something about the heart of David pulled God like a magnet and even when David messed up God couldn’t leave him.
More important than the action is first of all the heart posture and motive
Luke 6:45 “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh
Moreover, actions and words are a big pointer to what is first of all in the heart.
1. Poverty of the spirit
You cannot expect to get into the heart of the matter of the scriptures without the Spirit of Truth at the centre.
So acknowledging the ministry and help of The Holy Ghost as your teacher.
Poverty of the spirit has to do with a believer sustaining a heart of perpetual dependency on God.
The book of 2nd Timothy 3:16 says “ All scripture is given by inspiration of God”
If so be it then that the Spirit inspired it, then it can only take the Spirit to explain it.
And you can’t be looking for help and be acting that you know what you are doing when you are clueless.
There is a state of heart that makes you benefit from God’s word and it is poverty of the spirit.
And poverty of the spirit draws the hand of God even in the minutest of ways.
That’s why, it is an effort in futility to want to access revelation, and insight from the scriptures without the Holy Spirit.
Furthermore, when you acknowledge His ministry to you as a teacher,
by opening up your heart and calling on him to teach you even as you begin to study, you will see that you will not dabble into error.
The Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and if you engage Him, error will be far from you.
Finally, you will begin to see the scriptures as God sees it, not as you think.
It is only then that the work of transformation via the word of God begins.
2. Approach the scriptures with the intention of being transformed
Rom 12:2 “ And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed”
This is a very important matter in having the right heart posture towards the scriptures.
How then does this transformation mentioned in the above scripture happen?
It is by the word of God, that’s why the scriptures speaking in 2nd Corinthians 3:18 says “ as we behold, we become”
Meaning that for transformation to be possible the law of beholding must be engaged by the believer.
The more you expose yourself to the word of God with the right heart,
the more you are changed into what you are beholding.
Jacob understood this law, so he applied this to his livestock while he was with his father-in-law Laban
And each of the animals placed in front of that polka dot gave birth to polka dot animals.
Consequently, the same applies to you as a believer
You have to approach the scripture with the intent to be transformed not to prove a point
Many who tried to prove a point or beat a record so to speak made a shipwreck of “the faith”.
Furthermore, it is the word of God that helps in renewing our minds.
That’s why, above all else your motive must be correct so you won’t end up running in vain.
Finally, the right heart posture towards the word of God brings lasting transformation.
Something that can stand the test of time, and that will shine brighter.
3. Come with a childlike heart
The right heart posture towards the scriptures must encompass having a childlike heart.
There is a heart that children has, it is that ability to be teachable.
To learn, unlearn and relearn, the admirable characteristics of being curious.
And won’t rest until his or her questions are answered, the ability to trust what God is saying hundred percent.
1 Peter 2:2 “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”
Therefore, you need to approach the scriptures with hunger and curiosity.
Searching it daily like the Berean church in Acts 17 to become one with what it is saying.
This will help grey areas to be cleared for you and then it will help you stay within the confines of the scriptures.
However, it is men that ask questions that will get answers.
Finally, as you do this, with the Spirit’s guide you will become thoroughly furnished.
4. Have a heart of thanksgiving
This is another crucial heart posture you must imbibe.
Of a truth, Thanksgiving is a key to multiplicity.
In fact, Jesus buttresses the importance of thanksgiving when he asked the one leper who came back where others were.
That’s why, whatever level of depth of revelation you have attained, thank God.
Keep thanking God for every time you gained access to an insight in God’s word,
no matter how big or small you feel the revelation is, even if it seems as if you got “nothing”, thank Him still.
Whether verbally, the lifting of your hands or the whisper of thank you to Him in your heart.
It is a good way to start, soon enough you will notice that your level of access to revelation has blossomed.
CONCLUSION
Having the right heart posture is very vital in Bible study.
Conclusively, to position your heart rightly is to rely on the Spirit of Truth to guide you into all truth.
Pray, study, pray again, then study. I pray that God opens you to wondrous things in His word
And brings you into depths of revelation in Him in Jesus name. Amen

Truly, Thanksgiving is a key to multiplicity. We need to sustain a heart of Thanksgiving as believers, it gives access for us to receive more. Whether it’s for the revelation we gained access to by the spirit of God, or for something God did for us, we need to imbibe the culture of thanking God.
