Sin and temptation is one of the things believers face and deal with everyday of their lives.
For as long as you live in the flesh, sin and temptation will always come your way
However, how you respond to it matters a lot,
because your response can cause a ripple effect both in time and eternity.
Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death”
Sin and Temptation Explained
What is Sin?, What is temptation?
Beyond the acts, very far from the actions there is something you must know.
Sin is first of all a nature, sometimes you are addressing an act instead of a nature.
For example, it is in a swine’s nature to be dirty it doesn’t matter how much you bath it.
So you see, it is not necessarily about the pig rolling in dirt, it is about it’s nature first.
If you don’t know this, you will be treating a symptom instead of the root cause, but then I speak of us as believers
Who have put off the sinful nature and have put on the new man which is renewed in Christ.
Therefore, sin as an act can be said to mean going against God’s commands
Both in the organic sense, in fact I’ve found out that the more you walk with God the more certain things become sin to you.
For example not praying, I know you are wondering abii, I used to wonder too before why not praying is a sin.
1 Samuel 12:23 “Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you”
Sometimes, I wonder what would have happened to the Body of Christ, if there were no men praying.
Lastly, sin first entered the world when Adam, the first man created by God fell in the Garden of Eden.
This is what even necessitated the sin as actions, because prior to the fall of man
Man had no knowledge of sin at all,
Temptation
Temptation on the other hand comes from our desires and appetites, even legitimate ones.
So that you won’t think that temptation in itself is bad, because one can be tempted with good things.
I believe if you understand that you can be tempted by both good and bad things as well
You will be well equipped and on guard as most times believers tie temptation to only bad things.
James 1:12 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life”
Finding Victory in Christ
A believer who has decided to live a life of faith in Christ Jesus will invariably be faced with the issues of sin and temptation.
It is a struggle that even Apostle Paul himself cried out in one of his epistles
Romans 7:21 “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me”
That’s Apostle Paul’s cry of desperation despite all he knew.
But thank God for what it says in verse 25 of the same chapter.
“I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God”
Yes, there is a way of finding victory over sin and temptation, and that’s through Christ Jesus.
You keep labouring intentionally to be conformed to Christ, that’s your assurance of victory.
You understand that even Jesus was also tempted, several times sin came knocking on His door.
Hebrews 4:15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin”
Also, be rest assured that whatever the temptation we are faced with it
The promises of God stands sure that He won’t allow us to be tempted above what we are able to bear.
