Biblical characters for me have been a proof of many things God can achieve with a man
Especially those with the right heart and motives
The Bible contains stories of characters who persevered through struggles,
deepened their faith in God, and inspired generations of believers.
Even up until now I still wonder at their manner of life and the hope they had.
Romans 4:19 “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead,
when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb”
Lessons From Biblical Characters Explored
These Biblical characters such as Jesus most times capture my attention
Keeping me glued and questioning what kind of men they were.
You know just like before, I used to think it was impossible for one to stay 24 hours praying.
Let alone I being a participant of it, but God has shifted my mind many times in incomprehensible ways.
These Biblical characters, are witnesses to the fact that one can become something in God
Consequently, the day I rise to give excuses men like Eleazer the son of Dodo the Ahohite
Will rise up as a witness that a man can be weary yet fighting till victory is gained
2 Samuel 23:10 “He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword:
Of the truth, I am surrounded indeed by such a great cloud of witnesses.
So, this article covers these Biblical characters
1.The Power of Faith: Abraham
Hebrews 11:8 “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place
which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going”
The above scripture looks simple or maybe something that is a light thing to do.
However, you don’t know what it means for God to call you especially from your place of comfort and security
To a place you know nothing about, it is totally a step of faith
People leave because they have a place in view but Abraham left with his whole family trusting in simple obedience to God’s instructions
One of those days, while studying I just said that Abraham is one of the people I have questions for when I get to heaven
I would want to know what his motivation was, what kept him,
Especially because in their dispensation the Spirit was not yet poured
It is very evident, then, that there were things these men knew about God that furnished their unwavering faith.
Furthermore, there are alot of men of faith littered in the Book of Hebrews 11
Some of which the Bible recorded that they refused deliverance even when it was offered to them.
I mean they chose death, sometimes I find it difficult to wrap my head around these things.
I read some of their encounters and I wake up from my docile mat.
2. Anna: The Reward of Devotion
Luke 2:36-38 “And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher:
she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity”
The story of Anna is another Biblical characters that baffles me alot.
Seriously, she had every reason to be angry, recoil and carry about a moody face.
Evidently, she lost her husband very early in the marriage. She should at least mourn or throw a pity party.
But, here she was dedicating the rest of her life to intercession I mean not for her personal needs.
I have found out that sometimes we willingly
and effortlessly make intercessions especially if it’s for our personal needs
For our families, or maybe for people close to us especially because the ripple effect will in no wise benefit us.
However, Anna was in the temple for many years making intercessions on a matter
That the Messiah will manifest in time, it wasn’t like she was paid or maybe remarried.
It baffles me that she spent those years in the temple “day and night fasting and praying”
That’s why, when people ask why do you pray for this long or even fast this long?
I don’t even listen because certainly God’s purposes will keep hanging unless men pray and fast for long.
Finally, devotion and faithfulness will always be rewarded it doesn’t not matter how long it takes.
3. Dorcas (Tabitha): The Impact of Service
Acts 9:36 “Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas:
this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did”
Now, the impact of service should never be underestimated at all.
Especially service born from the wombs of the Spirit not necessarily philanthropy.
Of course, is philanthropy good, yes it is. But God didn’t call us to be philanthropist but kingdom givers
Therefore, you don’t necessarily give because you feel like or maybe to be called good
You give because as a steward the Master made a demand on His resources handed to you.
Dorcas was known in the whole of Joppa for her charitable deeds.
Consequently, men are known by their deeds be it charitable or not.
Sometimes, people think you should give to people because they don’t have.
You know I’ve been in situations where people say I should give them not them giving me because I have.
So, most times I correct that notion immediately because when you think like that you will rarely break out financially.
You don’t give people because they have or not, you give because it’s an instruction from God.
So irrespective of the fact that the person has please give and do it cheerfully.
A tightfisted person doesn’t usually have financial favour unless someone who has that favour is around him or her.
Finally, as much as lieth in you serve both in acts or with material things
One day, they might be what will speak for you if you faint not.
Galatians 6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing:
for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”
4. Elihu: The Value of Listening
Job 32:4 “Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he”
As believers, listening is a Biblical character we must cultivate
There is always this thing sometimes about man that makes us quick to talk
In fact, when you listen well you can pick out unspoken body language and trust God for the next line of action.
You see, this was Elihu. Am sure he had alot of things to say but he just listened to them talking
So, being a young friend of Job, he offered a fresh perspective during Job’s suffering.
So evidently, when you don’t listen you can’t offer a fresh perspective. Fresh in the sense that it is not clouded by sentiments.
Obviously, here was job, who said plenty things.
In fact the scripture made us know he was self righteous in his eyes.
However, because Elihu listened to Job’s complaints he was able to respond with proper insight
You know, it’s looking easy but this was a very young man in the midst of elderly people.
I mean, it is even possible that he was wise and discreet for him to be friends with Job at that age.
A man will definitely be brought to sit with elders irrespective of his age if he behaves wisely not craftily.
Finally, listening brings us to the point where we can offer constructive feedback especially if we are not biased.
God has to help us, somehow let Him find a way to make us wise. In Jesus name
Conclusion
There are alot of Biblical characters whose life remain a constant inspiration and hope to us as believers.
Therefore, by reflecting on their lives, we gain valuable insights that can inspire and direct our own actions
This will invarably help us to navigate the complexities of modern life with integrity and strength.
