Spiritual discipline is not of any significance if it has never accomplished anything.
God expects a measure of Spiritual discipline from you,
In fact, no one really amounts to something in God without a track record of Spiritual discipline.
The article below highlights 6 Spiritual discipline to equip yourself with.
6 SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES TO EQUIP YOURSELF WITH EXPLAINED
Have you ever felt overwhelmed?, like you couldn’t discern your next step? or do you consistently feel worn out?
Spiritual discipline helps you find your footing and alignment.
Evidently, spiritual growth is God’s work, but that oesn’t mean you don’t have an active part to play.
There are things you must do in response to the Spirit’s work and that is Spiritual discipline.
1.Prayer
Mark.1.35 – And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Prayer is one of the most important Spiritual discipline you need as a believer.
Jesus speaking in Matthew chapter 6 “ When you pray” meaning that it is not a probability but a must.
Prayer is one of the kingdom power factors,
Nevertheless, prayer doesn’t occur as frequently as it ought to if you don’t approach it with a mindset of spiritual discipline.
If you don’t already have a specific time for prayer, think about creating one.
Prayer is too important to fit in whenever it is convenient for you.
2.Bible study
1Pet.2.2 – As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
The believer is likened to a new born baby, and one of the important ways not to be an impoverished believer is study of the Word of God.
Furthermore, Bible study is a Spiritual discipline with the goal of helping you to examine scriptures for deeper understanding.
I’ve realized that it takes a lot of Spiritual discipline for believers to sit down and study.
Nonetheless, God is calling you to a place of discipline in the Word, that’s how you become thoroughly furnished.
3. Fasting
1Cor.9.27a – “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection”
Fasting is one of the kingdom power factors that instills Spiritual discipline in you.
This, temporarily abstaining from food helps you gain mastery over the yearnings of the flesh and self control as well.
Fasting is not done in limbo, typically, fasting is denying yourself food so that attention can be focused on prayer and other spiritual pursuits.
Also, food is not the only thing you can fast.
You can fast from social media, movies, football or other things that may distract you from pursuing the Lord.
But remember that basically, fasting involves denying yourself food, there must be self denial in fasting.
Additionally,Jesus speaking in Matthew 6 said “when you “fast” not if you fast.
It is also worthy of note, that fasting helps us gain focus, puts the body under subjection and amplifies our voice.
Prov.23.2 – And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
4. Fellowship
Prov.27.17 – Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Fellowship is an intentional aspect of Spiritual discipline.
There are several methods to make fellowship a discipline, but joining a church is the most obvious.
In addition, you can look for ways to intentionally build relationships or make a strategy to disciple others.
Furthermore, it’s quite practical to surround yourself with other believers.
They will pray for you, hold you accountable, and support and encourage you in your relationship with God.
Finally, fellowship is an eternal reality that God wants to believer to practice as a Spiritual discipline.
5. Journaling
Hab.2.2 – And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
Another Spiritual discipline you need to cultivate is journaling.
Journaling has to do with writing down things or record of God’s speakings, insight, visions, burdens of God, dreams, covenants, convictions, promises etc
Moreover, there is no man whom God takes serious and who takes God serious who doesn’t journal.
God’s speaks, journaling helps you as a believer to take stock and account of His sayings.
6) Stewardship
1Cor.4.2 – Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
Stewardship is another Spiritual discipline required of you as a child of God.
The scripture speaking in Luke 19:13, says occupy or do business till I come.
God commits things to us spiritual and physical realities and expects that we bring a return on investment.
In fact, you can to understand that both the investment and returns on investment is not yours, you are a steward.
The Lord of the house will demand for it, whether it is the investment or returns on investment.
So, our responsibility is to steward all that He has committed to us.
Furthermore, as a believer there is something to always give, time, your life etc
Finally, when you live your life you need to ask yourself the question.
“Is this how God wants me to use His investment in my life?”
An undisciplined life is a poor testimony- Fabian Foster
